Dental Bridges

All of your teeth play an important role in speaking, chewing and in maintaining proper alignment of other teeth. Tooth loss doesn't necessarily have to occur as you age, but if you do lose teeth they must be replaced to maintain proper function of your mouth. Fortunately, there are options for correcting tooth loss.

Dental Bridge: What is it?

A bridge — a device used to replace missing teeth — attaches artificial teeth to adjacent natural teeth, called abutment teeth.

Why do I need a bridge?

  • When you lose a tooth you will slowly lose bone. As you lose bone, you get a bigger hole.
  • Teeth will begin to shift.  Neighboring teeth will move and become crooked and the opposing tooth will drift into the space. This movement will change your bite negatively.
  • Can replace multiple missing teeth.

Alternatives to Bridges

  • Implants
  • Removable Partial Dentures

How do I take care of my bridge ?

A strict regimen of brushing and flossing will keep the bridge and surrounding teeth clean. This is of critical importance as the bridge relies on the neighboring teeth for support.  The abutment teeth that support the bridge could get decay or have periodontal disease, if the bridge is not maintained properly. Frequent visits to your hygienist will help ensure that your bridge will last a long time.
