How do we make CEREC crowns?  A high-technology intra-oral camera captures an optical impression of the prepared tooth. The porcelain restoration is then designed in our computer so that we can achieve optimal anatomy and contacts. The restoration is then milled out of a porcelain block. We usually use EMAX porcelain.

The block is very very strong and does not have a porosity which means you will have an extremely strong porcelain restoration that will last a very long time. After the restoration has been milled, we apply stain and glaze to customize the crown to the patient’s teeth.

It is then placed in a porcelain oven for approximately 20 minutes. In this process, the porcelain reaches a very high temperature in order to crystalize the material and improve its properties, especially its strength.

The crown is then treated and chemically bonded to the patient’s tooth. This minimizes any leakage, recurrent decay, and nearly eliminates the possibility of the crown falling off.
