Full Mouth Reconstruction in Wellington, FL
What is a Full Mouth Reconstruction?
A full mouth reconstruction involves restoring or rebuilding all of the teeth in both the upper and lower jaws. This comprehensive approach is often needed when years of wear and tear, due to trauma or clenching and grinding due to stress, have caused significant deterioration. The root cause of this deterioration is often an imbalance of the bite. Patients may notice that their teeth appear shorter, chipped, or uneven, and may experience jaw discomfort or difficulty chewing.
A full mouth reconstruction re-establishes a proper bite, alignment, comfort, and aesthetics, creating a healthy, natural-looking smile that feels as good as it looks!
While some patients have no pain or noticeable symptoms, others may experience signs of TMD, such as:
- Sensitivity to hot and cold
- Severe Headaches
- Difficulty Chewing
- Tingling pain, pain behind the eyes, and ear congestion
See our TMJ/TMD web page for more information.

What happens during Full Mouth Reconstruction?
We begin with a comprehensive neuromuscular evaluation to understand how the patient’s teeth, jaw joints, and muscles are working together. This process, known as a Full Neuromuscular Workup, helps us identify the ideal position for the bite. This includes:
- K-7 computerized software to track range of motion, jaw tracking, electromyography, and joint sonography
- TENS therapy to relax the facial and jaw muscles
- Photographic Analysis
- X-rays (including cranial and cervical) if needed
- Facial Esthetic Analysis
These diagnostic tools allow us to analyze the patient’s bite precisely and determine the optimal, natural bite that the patient ought to be in to avoid further malfunction and severe wear and tear on the teeth.
If the patient is experiencing TMD-related symptoms, they may first be required to wear a custom orthotic appliance or temporary restorations for 3-6 months to allow the bite and muscles to stabilize.
The next step in treatment is a complete diagnostic workup/wax-up. We create a detailed model of the patient’s new smile, and then prep and restore the teeth. We strongly advise that patients wear a nightguard to prevent any further damage from clenching or grinding.
